PLAYA DEL CARMEN TRIP
My friend Arthur asked me to join him for a week at Playacar Palace in Playa del Carmen, a coastal resort town in the Yucatan peninsula's state of Quintana Roo. I jumped at the invitation since it is one of his perks for being a member. All I have to pay is my airfare and tips for services during the week.

April 8
Playacar Palace

Checked in at Playacar Palace, an all-inclusive resort, after taking the transfer from the airport. The room with a terrace overlooks the ocean and the swimming pool and the minibar is stacked with vodka, rum, tequila, beer, juice and soda. for the next few days it will just be rest and relaxation!

Had cocktails at the bar after we checked out the facilities then had dinner at one of the restaurants before we watched the Mexican Three Tenors by the pool. Checked out the town after the show.

Playacar Palace

Lounged by the pool after breakfast, then off to the spa for a back massage, manicure and pedicure. Then a sumptuous lunch. What a life of leisure!

Took a siesta then went down for cocktails by the pool. Then back to the room to get ready for dinner at the La Terrazza, where I started with Campari y soda. My appetizer was beef carpaccio, followed by caprese salad then Gamberi alla grappa accompanied by a nice glass of Merlot. The waiter brought us limoncello then we were off to the evening entertainment.

April 10
Breakfast followed by sunbathing again by the pool in the morning, nice lunch at Cafe del Mar, then siesta. Walked to town and saw some Mayan dancers and acrobats by the bronze statue called Portal Maya.

Dinner was at the hotel's Japanese restaurant MoMoNoHaNa.

April 11
Today was a trip to Cozumel by ferry to do some snorkeling at the Cozumel Palace resort. We sunbathed, snorkeled, had a nice lunch then sunbathed a little more before we took the ferry back to Playa del Carmen.

Dinner was again at the hotel's Japanese restaurant but this time we tried the hibachi dinner which was sumptuous.

April 12
Sunday was a lazy day. just lounging at the pool, getting really dark! Later in the afternoon, we had body massage and facials at the spa, thanks to Arthur's membership perks at the resort.

April 13
Went horseback riding today at the Rancho Bonanza and we saw some spider monkeys and lush vegetation along the way. Later Arthur went for a swim at a cenote, a natural pit or a sinkhole resilting from the collapse of limestone bedrock that exposes groundwater underneath.

April 14
Spent the morning in Tulum, a Pre-Columbian Mayan walled city, which was one of the last cities inhabited and built by the Maya. It was at its height in the 13th and 15th centuries and managed to survive about 70 years after the Spanish occupied Mexico.

Back at the Playacar in the afternoon for more sunbathing. Dinner was at La Terrazza.

April 15
Adios, Playa del Carmen! It was a fun and relaxing week! Too much food, drink, sun and sand but I'm not complaining!
